On July 12, 2024, the Caribbean Industrial Park (CIP) took an important step in its commitment to environmental preservation by signing one of the five co-management agreements promoted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. These agreements, aimed at fostering collaboration between the private sector and environmental organizations, represent a joint effort to preserve the country’s natural resources.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Abel Rojas, General Director of Caribbean Industrial Park, who represented the entity during the ceremony. Alongside him were other key figures committed to conservation, including Mr. Saúl Abreu from the Association for the Development of the Santiago Province (ADEPI), Dionisio Hernández from the Dominican Scouts Association, and Yendry Manuel Espinal Batista from the Ecological Society of Puñal (SOEPA). All pledged to establish a support and collaboration plan for the conservation of the Laguna Prieta Wildlife Refuge, located within the industrial park area.
A Biodiversity Refuge
The Laguna Prieta Wildlife Refuge, located within the boundaries of Caribbean Industrial Park, is an area of great ecological richness. It is home to numerous species of flora and fauna, including endemic and native species that require special protection. This refuge acts as a small green lung, contributing to the environmental balance of the region, and serves as an example of how industry and nature can coexist harmoniously.
During the ceremony, Abel Rojas emphasized the importance of such initiatives, highlighting Caribbean Industrial Park’s commitment to sustainability. “This type of action reaffirms our commitment to contributing to the strengthening of sustainable impact initiatives for the country. We are honored to be part of a project that not only protects our natural resources but also ensures a greener future for future generations,” said Rojas.
Collaboration for Sustainable Impact
The signed agreement is part of a broader effort to involve various institutions and sectors in the protection of natural areas in the country. The five co-management agreements promoted by the Ministry of Environment aim to protect and conserve areas of high biodiversity, fostering the active participation of local communities and social organizations.
The Laguna Prieta Wildlife Refuge is just one of the many natural spaces that will benefit from these agreements. With the collaboration of organizations such as the Scouts Association, ADEPI, and SOEPA, concrete conservation actions are expected to be implemented, including reforestation, species monitoring, and environmental education for both the industrial park employees and the community at large.
A Model for Sustainable Development
Caribbean Industrial Park has demonstrated that it is possible to integrate economic activity with environmental conservation. Its involvement in signing this agreement is another step in its vision to promote sustainable industrial development. The partnership with the Ministry of Environment and other key actors not only strengthens the management of the Laguna Prieta Wildlife Refuge but also serves as a model for other companies looking to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
These types of collaborations reinforce the importance of public-private partnerships in environmental protection and set a precedent for other companies to join the initiative of caring for the country’s natural resources.
By signing these agreements, Caribbean Industrial Park reaffirms its position as a leader in sustainability and makes it clear that the future of industry in the country must go hand in hand with the protection and conservation of our valuable natural resources.
